True North held the Management Contract for Nakusp and Area Community Forest (NACFOR) from the inception of the Community Forest in 2008 – 2023, when Cabin Resource Management obtained the new management contract.

True North took a lead role in the establishment and start-up efforts of the Arrow Lakes Caribou Society in early 2019 as a broad-based collective of local groups and individuals concerned with caribou recovery efforts in the Central Selkirk Mountains. The society provides a local voice in land use decision-making and caribou recovery. The Society’s mission is to facilitate information sharing and involvement during the development and implementation of caribou recovery efforts and activities and to advocate for ongoing, transparent, and meaningful community and stakeholder communication and consultations. ALCS has developed the Central Selkirk Caribou Maternity Pen project to work alongside other recovery actions to halt the population decline of the Central Selkirk caribou subpopulation. The maternity pen is supported by ALCS members, stakeholders, caribou experts and the provincial government. The eight-member Maternity Pen Working Group includes three of True North’s staff: Hugh Watt, RPF, Frances Swan, RPF and Erin McLeod, BIT.    Having a local and diverse community group to facilitate caribou recovery will be the best means to ensure success. Together with our affiliate, BHEX Contracting Ltd., True North has been part of the development team for Cedar Coast’s Shelter Bay project south of Revelstoke, since 2010.
